from my husband's BB, behind Sarawak General Hospital, Jalan Tun Openg Kuching
Heavy down pour since last night has caused massive jam in Kuching this morning. I left the house at 6:15am but was already caught in horrible bumper to bumper within 10 minutes. When we were finally reaching Arman's school at 7am, water level had risen up about over 1 foot (or 2!) high (my rough calculation) and only few cars managed to pass through the floody area (below). After what seemed like forever being stuck behind unmoving cars, from afar I could see my son's school guard standing next to the Sugar Bun building with his umbrella signalling to queued cars not to enter the lane heading to SK St Joseph.
-oh man- How to even u-turn with that kind of jam.
"Ok.. we're driving Arman back home..." sayang said.
And thank god for facebook, friends and I kept updating one another on which road was already flooded and which route not to take. From the updates I'm reading now, it's like the whole Kuching has been hit by flash flood.
This rain and flood reminds me of the horrible flood that drowned some areas in Kuching in 2003/2004.
SK St Joseph is closed today.
From a friend's FB update~ A friend stuck at Rock Road said that a form 6 girl from batu lintang school fell into the drain and swept away. Praying for her safety. Please be extra careful if you're outdoors. (hope this is not true...)
*** Latest update 10am - Unfortunately, the above news is true as updated by my friends moments ago. 2 persons, the girl (student) and the person who tried to save her.
Still, I hope not true... we wait for official news.

Pazuzu, Lyn, Anonym, Buzz, I was surprised juak with the horrible flood. Been awhile since Kuching last experienced this kind of flood
Hannah & Tia, thank you and you're most welcome. This is a great platform to warn others, agree?
Chicasz, that would be a sweet gesture.. sokay, just pray
Anonym, maybe because of certain development that doesn't provide good drainage... Maybe..
Nia, hope you're enjoying your early weekend dear. Sad.. indeed yesterday was a sad day
mr_abs & Yusz, tragic & overwhelming. The government should act on this.
Thank you all for being here, have a good weekend. Cheers! :)
Inilah kali pertama banjir kilat yg besar...sebelum ni tak mcm ni kan? mungkin ada masalah dgn perparitan disana..
Elih Japahar:- u forgot. there was a big flood back in 1963. my mum told me, she had to go to go around town using a boat. the whole of kuching was flooded.
as of Sat, 7th Jan 2012, we watch the news on NTV7 that the Hero's body found at Sg maong/Stapok area. I passed there this afternoon on my way home. the Fire & Rescue Department was sailing along the river as at 3.00 pm.
as at 6.30 pm today, fire & rescue department camped out under the new suspension bridge next to the open air food court across from the new kubah ria. Great job men & women for not giving up just yet.
I was hoping both of them were alive.
hadoh hadoh hadoh!
apa dah jadi dgn kuching tok? when my other half told me about the flood, I thought it was biasa2 jak.. duhal tek teruk.
Elih, I heard some worse stories about the flood that happened in Sarawak decades ago..
Viviena, tq for the short story. Mostly we only get to hear from our elderlies, maybe if they have photos would be better.. Just to add in the history archive.
Fina, I was shocked as well. Biasalah, really thought it was just one of those heavy downpour but, ended with tragedy.. Sad, coz it happened when school just started 2 days!
Ida:- my dear, those days in 1963. nobody carry around a camera everywhere. too bulky!
As for the missing girl. if you drove pass the sungai maong bridge near the chinese school. very sad scene. family members, volunteers and onlookers still waiting for her come rain or shine.
Hi Viv, I passed by the area few days ago.. I saw them. Kesian, I can't start to imagine how they feel. For sure they even hope she'd come out alive :(
Ida,
since she didn't surfaced after 3 days, i was hoping she was alive and lost her memory and made it to shore. i could only hope.
It's too long already... one week :(
i was at the Hero's workplace on Saturday. His colleagues were overwhelmed by kind gestures of strangers towards their late colleague and the stranger he tried to save. flowers are growing and so is an iron fence.
